Eye Lid Surgery (Blefaroplasty):
Eye Lid Surgery procedure is usually done for cosmetic reasons. It´s also an effective way to improve sight in older people whose sagging upper eye lids get in the way of their vision.
An eye lift will not eliminate dark circles under the eyes, crows feet, or other facial wrinkles. This procedure is often done along with other procedures such as laser resurfacing, filler injections, or forehead lifts.
Eye Lid Surgery (Blefaroplasty)
The process of eyelid aging :
As our skin ages, it gradually loses it´s elasticity. The lack of elasticity plus the constant pull of gravity causes excessive skin to collect on the upper and lower eye lids. Excessive skin on the lower eye lid causes wrinkles and bulges. On the upper eye lids, an extra fold of skin can hang over the eyelashes and get in the way of seeing.
The fatty tissue that cushions the eyeball from the skull can also cause bulges in the upper and lower eyelids. The thin membrain that holds the fat in place also weakens with age, letting the fat come forward into the lids somewhat like an hernia.
Who is a good candidate for the eye
Lid surgery :
Considered from some of the best cosmetic plastic surgeons the best candidates for an eyelift surgery are people who are in good health and whom have realistic expectations. Most patients are 35 years or older , but if baggy eyelids or droopy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have the surgery done sooner. Eyelid surgery in Baja Tijuana, Mexico can enhance your appearance and help build your confidence. However, this surgery procedure may not result in your ideal look or alter your facial structure. Before you decide to have your surgery, think about your goals and discuss them with your surgeon.
Will the results of eyelid surgery be
The upper eyelid surgery in Baja Tijuana, Mexico can last about five to seven years. Lower eyelid surgery rarely needs to be repeated. Of course, your eyes will age after this surgery procedure is done ! If your eyelids sag again, a forehead lift rather than another eyelift may be the preferred procedure.
How should I prepare for an eyelift
Surgery procedure ?
The doctors with Mexico Extreme Makeover highly suggest for safety reasons to have you arrange for another person drive you to the hospital and then back home after your surgery procedure. You should also have someone stay with you after your procedure which we at Mexico Extreme Makeover can help you arrange for that. Expect to plan and stay home from work and limit your activities for several days after surgery while your eyelids heal. Do not bend over low or pick up anything from the ground or anything heavy as blood can rush to the head area and cause more swelling, coloration after surgery and take longer to heal ! Some people have dry eyes after surgery, but that rarely lasts for two weeks or so. Contact us at Mexico Extreme Makeover to have your doctor answer any questions you may have. If you attempt to call your doctor he may be in the surgery room or a consultation and may not give you an answer till many days later.
At home you should have the following items ready :
. Ice cubes
. An Ice pack (or you can use freezer bags filled with ice, frozen corn or peas)
. Small gauze pads
. Eye drops or artificial tears ( ask Mexico Extreme Makeover to ask your doctor to recommend the proper type of eye drops to meet your particular needs)
. Clean wash cloths and towels
. Over the counter pain killers ( your doctor might recommend NOT to use Advil, Motrin, Naproxen, Aleve and aspirin due to the increased risk of bleeding.
How is eyelid surgery performed ?
An eyelift surgery procedure usually takes about two to two and a half hours if both upper and lower eyelids are done together. Your doctor will most likely use a local anesthesia (maybe a pain killer injected around the eye area) with oral sedation. If you are having the procedure done at a hospital or surgery center, you will most likely receive IV sedation.
If you are having all four eyelids done, your surgeon will probably will work on the upper lids first. The surgeon will usually cut along the natural lines of your eyelids. Through these cuts your doctor surgeon will separate the skin from the underlying tissue and remove the excess fat and skin (and muscle if indicated). Next, your surgeon will close the cuts with very small stiches. The stitches in the upper lids will stay for three to six days. The lower lids may or may not require stitches, depending on the technique used. Surgery on the lower eyelids may be done using one of several techniques. In one method, your surgeon makes a cut in your lower eyelid to remove fat. That cut may not be visible. Your surgeon can then soften fine lines in the skin using a CO 2 or erbium laser. Another method involves making a cut along the eyelash margin. Through that cut, your surgeon can remove excess skin, loose muscle and fatty tissue. That cut line fades after a short time. With either of these procedures, your surgeon may recommend laser resurfacing.
What is the recovery like after having
An eyelid surgery ?
After eyelid surgery, you will have stiches in both lids that should remain for as long as a week. It is common to have swelling and, occasionally, bruising, but your eyelids should look normal within a week or two.
What are the possible complications
From eyelid surgery ?
Complications and unwanted results from an eyelift are rare, but sometimes they do occur. They can include:
. Dry eyes
. Abnormal coloring of the eyelids
. Eyelid skin that folds in or out abnormally
. Not being fully to close your eyes till days after surgery
. A pulled-down lower lid lash line
. A possible loss of vision
Other medical conditions that may require functional eyelid surgery include :
. Irritation from excess folds of eyelid skin rubbing together
. Forehead discomfort from overused muscles that strain to lift sagging skin in the eyelid area
As with cosmetic blepharoplasty most often is performed by opthalmologists and ocuoplastic surgeons.
However, general plastic surgeons, ear, nose and throat surgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons also perform medically necessary eyelid surgery.
Does insurance cover eyelid surgery ?
Health Insurance companies typically don´t cover cosmetic procedures. If you are getting eyelid surgery for a medical reason ( for instance, because your eyelids are drooping so much that it effects your vision) and if a vision exam confirms that, your insurance company may cover it ? Check on that before you get the surgery done in order to know what you will exactly pay for this procedure.

The hospital was great. It was very clean and the nurses were lovely and very thorough. My doctor was fantastic. He was very professional and thorough. He explained everything and prepared me for the outcome. I felt very confident in what was happening. After the surgery i stayed the night in the hospital. The nurses where always checking in and they were so helpful. The hospital rooms were large and private with big bathrooms and television. After living the hospital I stayed a couple of days at the hotel. The doctor cheeked in on me and gave me all of my medications for the trip home. I highly recommend Mexico Extreme Makeover.
